A Hallucinatory Buffalo
Although the buffalo in this print is extremely realistic looking and three-dimensional, its unnaturally elongated body suggests that it was either hallucinated by a shaman in altered states of consciousness or, perhaps, it is a shaman that transformed into their favorite animal ally. (From M.D. Leakey, 1983. Redrawn by J.A. Cavallo).
